CEBU, Philippines — A 27-year-old man from Czech Republic who was on vacation in a beach resort in Moalboal died after his head was severely injured when he dove into the sea from the terrace of a bar in Barangay Basdiot, Moalboal during low tide on Saturday evening.
The victim was identified by the police as Roman Sgiloda who was temporarily residing in a beach resort in the said place.
Police Officer 2 Arnold Sergio, desk officer of Moalboal Police, said the victim and his three friends were having a drinking spree in a bar near the resort where they were staying.
Sgiloda, who was already drunk, reportedly asked permission to go to the comfort room.
However, Sergio said, that right after the victim came out of the men’s room, he suddenly ran to the terrace and quickly dove to the shore.
“Hubog na kaayo ang victim niya midagan ngadto sa terrace sa bar nga nag-atubang sa dagat niya dayun og dive. Talaptap man na diha, mga bato pero flat hinuon didto naigo iyang ulo,” said Sergio.
Sgiloda was rushed to the nearest hospital but was already declared dead on arrival by the attending physician due to severe head injuries.
Sergio said in the morning before the accident, Sgiloda and his friends were reportedly seen swimming near the bar.
“Pagbuntag daw ato kay nag-ambak-ambak na sila diha mao siguro nga ang victim ni-dive didto unya kay low tide man, mao naugbok,” said Sergio.
The police are still conducting a follow up investigation if the establishment can be held liable for incident. (FREEMAN)
