CEBU, Philippines — The new three-story Cebu City Health Department building will soon rise on its current location along General Maxilom Avenue in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the P19.9-million building was held yesterday. It was attended by City Councilor Mary Ann Delos Santos, deputy mayor for health; Department of Health-7 Assistant Regional Director Sophia Mancao; and Dr. Alma Corpin, City Health officer-in-charge, among others.

The budget was sourced from DOH national office, according to Mancao.

The project contractor, Quirante Construction, is set to start the construction in the next few days.

The first floor would house the supply office and pharmacy, while the second floor would serve as the laboratory room. The third floor, on the other hand, would be used as administrative offices.

The planning of the new building was done in 2015 and 2016.

Corpin said they are hoping that the building would be finished before the year ends.

“Everyday we are serving a thousand of clients, we want them to be comfortable and the services must be delivered better,” she said.

Delos Santos thanked DOH for funding the city’s infrastructure project.

“Definitely, this will change the image of city health and it will be through the mantra of the mayor that tomorrow will be better than today. The building in itself speaks that it can give better tomorrow and a better service for the constituents of Cebu,” she said.

Mancao said the project was part of the DOH’s health facility enhancement program in a bid to improve the health facilities in the country.

“Kani siya ang gihatagan og funding for the construction and innovation of health facility,” she said. (FREEMAN)
