CEBU, Philippines - The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) is advising residents living in elevated areas to store water for their daily consumption as the water supply of Buhisan Dam continues to fluctuate, though it has not reached a critical level yet.
"The water level in Buhisan Dam is fluctuating. Karon kay 5.6 meter to 6 meter na lang," said MCWD spokesperson Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara yesterday.
But she emphasized that this is not yet at the critical level, which is set at nine meters.
Despite this, MCWD has started informing the residents of Barangay Capitol Site in Cebu City to start storing water from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. for their daily usage.
"Labi na sa elevated areas sa Barangay Capitol Site apektado gyud sila. Problema gyud kay dili gyud makasaka ang tubig sa maong lugar," said Kara.
MCWD recommends the use of cisterns, tanks or large barrels for storing water good for 24 hours as it continues to educate consumers about the need to conserve water and to use it wisely.
MCWD has 120 deep wells within its franchise area that are a source of water aside from its facility in Barangay Jaclupan, Talisay City. (FREEMAN)
