CEBU, Philippines - Personnel of the City Traffic Management Systems of Lapu-Lapu have crossed the borders of Mandaue City to improve traffic management.
Mayor Paz Radaza said she has informed Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing about several CTMS personnel assigned in areas near University of Cebu- Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue Campus from Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.
Some traffic personnel from Lapu-Lapu City were also deployed along U.N. Avenue in Mandaue City, near Marcelo Fernan Bridge, she said.
Radaza said that in one of the regional meetings early this month, she happened to sat beside Quisumbing and discussed the matter with him.
"Nagkatupad mi'ng Mayor Luigi sa usa ka-regional meeting. Okay ra man siya," she said.
Radaza said she deployed a few personnel in Mandaue City to monitor traffic, considering that the city has ongoing road repairs along D.M. Cortes St., formerly called Plaridel St.
The ongoing repairs are affecting motorists coming from Lapu-Lapu City.
With the absence of traffic lights in Lapu-Lapu City, Radaza said the city government is planning to purchase new ones, similar to Mandaue City's digital traffic light units.
The city government's request for traffic lights units to the Department of Public Works and Highways is still currently being processed.
"Ongoing pa ang request. Naabot mi sa point nga ang siyudad na lang mopalit," said Radaza, who is yet to determine the cost of the said units.
The city plans to purchase around seven to eleven traffic light units, which will be installed in the city's intersections.
Radaza said the CTMS personnel are currently tapped to control traffic and are in constant coordination with the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM). (FREEMAN)
