Man indicted for attempted murder

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office has indicted a 40-year-old man for trying to kill his neighbor in Barangay T. Padilla seven years ago.

Assistant city prosecutor Russel Busico found probable cause to hold Ruel Galeon for trial for attempted murder after he allegedly shot his neighbor, Palocito Agustin, 42, on June 8, 2008.

Agustin said he was walking along the pathway in Sitio Bukog Barangay T. Padilla together with his live-in partner when he met the accused who then shot him. The victim survived from the shooting but underwent surgical operation.

The victim claimed that the accused was harboring personal grudge against him because he chased him with a knife few days earlier for threatening to kill him without any reason.

“That Ruel Galeon was harboring a grudge against me after I chased him with a knife last May 31, 2008, when he threatened to kill me for unknown reason,” Agustin’s affidavit reads.

The accused was issued subpoena to answer the complaint but failed to submit his counter-affidavit.

The prosecutor has recommended P40,000 bail for Galeon’s temporary liberty. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
