Mandaue hospital to increase bed capacity

CEBU, Philippines - The House of Representatives has approved the proposed increase of bed capacity for the Eversley Childs Sanitarium Hospital in Mandaue City from 50 to 100, upgrading its service facilities and professional healthcare.

House Bill No. 6173 authored principally by Sixth District Representative Gabriel Luis Quisumbing was transmitted to the Senate last October 15, 2015.

Quisumbing originally filed HB No. 1545 on July 13, 2013 but the same was replaced by HB No. 6173 after it passed through the House Committee on Health chaired by Representative Eufranio Eriguel and the House Committee on Appropriations chaired by Representative Isidro Ungab.

Quisumbing who is running for mayor of Mandaue City said the upgrade of facilities will increase the capacity of the public hospital and make it more accessible residents cannot afford expensive private hospitals.

“The ideal that we strive for is a healthy constituency, equipped with all the tools to realize their full potential and achieve progress as individuals as productive members of society,” Quisumbing said.

The approved bill provides that the existing service facilities and professional healthcare services of the hospital be upgraded to conform to and be commensurate to the bed capacity increase.

Quisumbing said that during the 15th Congress, the House Committee on Health approved the proposed measure hence the passage of the bill was sought earnestly.

Once enacted into law, the Department of Health will include in its programs the implementation of the funding, which will be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.

Last October 2014, the House also approved Quisumbing’s HB No. 1543 changing the name of Eversley Childs Sanitarium Hospital to Eversley Childs Sanitarium and General Hospital.

The bill is pending at the Senate since December 3, 2014.

In 2005, Eversley Child Sanitarium opened its general services such as Obstetrics, Gynecology, Family Medicine, Pediatrics and Surgery. It also offered other services including family planning counseling, immunization and major, medium, and minor surgical operation.  (FREEMAN)
