Boy’s eye hurt after teacher threw jalousie blade at him

CEBU, Philippines - A nine-year-old boy was injured on his eye after he was hit by a wooden jalousie blade allegedly thrown at him by his teacher during a class on Monday in Barangay Langtad, Argao town.

The Grade 4 substitute teacher (name being withheld by The FREEMAN), was allegedly mad at the boy for not listening to her while discussing in class at past 3 p.m. on Monday.

The parents of the boy went to Argao Police Station and had the incident recorded in the blotter.

According to the mother, her son came home from school on Monday with a wound on his eyelid, said Senior Inspector Alejandro Batobalonos, the station chief.

Based on the report, the boy was allegedly busy chatting with his classmates seated at the back of the classroom when their teacher, who was discussing the lesson, called his name.

The boy initially did not hear his teacher and when he later looked back after finally hearing his name being called, a wooden jalousie blade hit his eyelid.

“Gitawag, paglingi, gilabayan og jalousie blade, naigo sa tabon-tabon sa tuo nga mata,” Batobalonos said.

But the parents of the boy are not bent on pressing charges against the teacher and only had the case, as well as the medical certificate of their son’s injury, recorded at the police station.

The parents have allegedly settled the matter with the teacher at the principal’s office, although it was not really the teacher who asked for an apology.

“Ang ingon sa inahan ang nangayo og pasaylo di g’yud ang maestro, ang kauban ra. Pero nagka-settle sila sa principal office,” Batobalonos said. — (FREEMAN)
