CEBU, Philippines – A 27-year old woman was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen yesterday morning in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City.
The victim was identified as Anna Glend Villaruel, an employee of one of the locators at the Mactan Economic Processing Zone I in Barangay Ibo. She sustained gunshot wound in the body resulting in her death.
Jeepney driver Romeo Flores, 49, of M.L. Quezon Street in Barangay Pajo, and Sherwin Salazar, 32, of Cordova, Cebu were also injured. Salazar also works in MEPZ 1.
Police Officer 3 Lydo Pinos, homicide investigator, said Villaruel may not have been the target of the gunmen. Pinos said the jeepney driver could be the real target because the gunmen first fired at him.
Flores was able to evade the first shot hitting Villaruel instead who was about to disembark from the jeepney.
The other gunman fired at Flores hitting the latter in his left leg. The bullet also hit Salazar who was sitting beside him in the front seat.
"Gi-utrohan og pusil si Flores sa iyahang paa, naangol sad si Salazar," Pinos added.
The unidentified assailants immediately escaped leaving the three victims wounded.
"Ang suspects matod ni Flores, nagsul-ob og full-faced helmet gihapon ug nag-shades apan nakaikyas sila human sa insidente," Pinos said.
Flores was brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while Salazar was admitted to Mactan Doctor's Hospital.
"Presidente man ni si Flores sa mga PUJ driver sa Mepz 1 n'ya naa daw ni siya'y nakontra. Iyaha ra sad nang duda nga posible siya ang target," Pinos said. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
