Liberal Party loses the Ouanos

CEBU, Philippines - The Liberal Party lost the Ouanos of the sixth district in Cebu Province to One Cebu party.

During the general assembly of One Cebu yesterday, Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon was proclaimed the party’s official candidate for mayor in Mandaue City. She was proclaimed together with her complete slate.

Prior to yesterday’s event, Ouano-Dizon has been waiting for LP to announce its candidates in Mandaue.

“We have been reaching out to them through Governor Davide and other LP members but unfortunately there was no definite answer. Since we were invited by One Cebu by lawyer Winston Garcia then we decided to honor his invitation,” Ouano-Dizon said.

Garcia is the gubernatorial candidate of One Cebu against Governor Hilario Davide III, the LP provincial chairman.

The running mate of Ouano-Dizon is Councilor Bethoven Andaya and the candidates for councilors are Emiliano Rosal, Procopio Villanueva,  lawyer  Erwin Heyrosa, Cesar “Sol” Cabahug, Elmer Cabahug, Malcolm Sanchez, George Mendoza, Edward Monsanto, Benjamin Basiga and Editha Monteza.

They are set to file their certificates of candidacy on Wednesday morning after a Mass at the National Shrine of St. Joseph Parish.

An earlier report said that LP would field sixth district Representative Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing for mayor to swap position with Mayor Jonas Cortes who is on his last term.

Ouano-Dizon already manifested her interest to run for mayor long before and was expected to run against Quisumbing or against anyone Cortes would endorse.

All of them ran under LP in 2013 including Ouano-Dizon’s father, Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano who is seeking re-election.

Ouano-Dizon’s brother, former PB member Alfred Francis “Alfie” Ouano, is also running for councilor in Consolacion, the position he held for three terms.  (FREEMAN)
