CEBU, Philippines - A 21-year-old man, who allegedly felt bad when he knew he was adopted, took his own life yesterday afternoon in Malbago, Daanbantayan town.
Edward Godinez was found dead inside their house past 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
Initial investigation revealed that Sedra Godinez, a neighbor and a relative of Edward, saw him hanging on a rope inside the house so she immediately called the police station for assistance.
She also informed Edward’s parents who immediately went home after learning the incident.
However, when Edward’s parents arrived, he was already unresponsive.
They untied Edward just in time when the police arrived in the house.
Edward was no longer brought to the hospital since his parents were convinced that he was already dead.
The police learned that Edward committed suicide when his parents left him alone in the house past 1 p.m. on Friday thinking everything was fine.
But Edward was reportedly suffering from depression after he learned two months ago that he was an adopted son.
His neighbors allegedly heard him saying “puslan man, maghikog ko.”
The neighbors thought that he was only joking until they learned that he committed suicide.
The police suggested to Edward’s parents though to submit their son’s body for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death and to rule out foul play. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
