CEBU, Philippines- Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama highlighted the city’s green and urban revitalization projects during the United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) conference in Wakatobi Regency, Indonesia.

Rama, who returned from his one-week trip to Indonesia last Sunday, was one of the speakers at the ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) in  Wakatobi, a UNESCO-registered place and ranked as one of the highest priorities for marine conservation in Indonesia in terms of diversity of marine life, scale, and reef condition.

The other conference was in Macassar, Indonesia where he was a participant, along with other chief executives of other highly-urbanized cities.

The goal of the AMF is to facilitate knowledge-sharing and mutual-learning among local chief executives and a number of international organizations working in the field to foster sustainable development to achieve stronger communities within the ASEAN region.

During his presentation, Rama discussed about Cebu City’s green revitalization wherein he shared the different urban projects in the city, such as developing plazas, playgrounds and open spaces.

“We only have one mother earth and we need to depend, protect and preserve it to bring tranquility, harmony and rhythm for our children and the next generation. We should  savor, cherish and be proud about it and we all should be dealing it together for together, all in one we can make the best things happen,” said Rama in his statement

He also shared the efforts made by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7 Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) and the Barangay Environmental Offices on protecting and developing green spaces in the city.

Rama also included in his sustainable agenda the planting of vegetables in the different islands, as well as the recycling efforts of the Cebuanos.  (FREEMAN)
