Two town councilors shift to LP

CEBU, Philippines- Two San Remegio town councilors under the One Cebu party took oath before Governor Hilario Davide III yesterday to pledge allegiance with the Liberal Party.

San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez, in an interview, said Councilors Condrado Loon and Williamson Po were from One Cebu before they decided to jump to the administration’s Liberal Party.

The One Cebu party is led by former governor and current third district Representative Gwendolyn Garcia. The party is allied with the United Nationalist Alliance of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

Martinez, who is an LP member, said Loon and Po joined the other three LP members in the council.

Martinez and the two new members of LP had also assured their support to LP’s standard bearer, presidential candidate Mar Roxas, and the tandem of Governor Davide and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.

The mayor said with more of them under the LP, they can better help the party candidates win in next year’s elections.

He said more One Cebu members are jumping to the LP bandwagon because of the number of projects implemented under the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.

“There are changes. People are feeling the difference. PNoy initiated projects for the people. Hopefully this can continue,” he said.

Along with the two councilors, at least 17 barangay captains also pledged their allegiance with LP before Davide, the party’s provincial leader.

Martinez said before the election, there were only 10 LP barangay captains in San Remegio.

Now, he said they have 17 out of the 27 barangay captains under LP.  (FREEMAN)
