“Jealousy” drives man to hack live-in partner

CEBU, Philippines- A 25-year-old woman was hacked by her live-in partner in Sitio Nazareth, Barangay Buhisan, Cebu City Sunday afternoon.

Maricris Lapay, 25, suffered from several wounds to different parts of her body after she was hacked by Christian Montalbo, 23,

 Police Officer Lou Pagara of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said that they are eyeing jealousy as the motive of the attack against Lapay.

 Pagara also said that the suspect was reportedly angry at Lapay since she refused to give him money.

 Lapay’s sister, Caroline Egay, 34, told the police that her child and Lapay’s daughter were playing outside their house when the children saw the victim on the ground with blood on her head. 

The kids called Egay, who checked her sister herself and immediately took her to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

 Egay reportedly said that Lapay told her that Montalbo used an axe to hack her and ran away after the attack.

 In a separate incident, two men were injured after they were stabbed by a drunk man in Sitio Laray, Barangay Carreta, Cebu City Sunday evening.

 Narciso Arsenal, 40, was stabbed in his upper left arm while Crisanto Amoranto, 19, was stabbed in his abdomen by Lucio Albaracin, 53.

 Police investigation showed that Arsenal was engaged in a drinking spree with his neighbors, Joseph Dado and Ben Albaracin at the terrace of the former’s house.

 Arsenal later told police that Lucio who was already drunk suddenly appeared at his house. Ben reportedly tried to stop his brother but the Lucio pulled out a knife. Arsenal attempted to hit the suspect with a piece of wood but missed. Amoranto, who allegedly tried to stop the fight, was also stabbed by Lucio.

 The victims were immediately brought to Cebu City Medical Center while Lucio was arrested by barangay tanods. (FREEMAN)
