CEBU, Philippines - Over P6 million worth of marijuana plants were uprooted Monday morning by the joint forces of the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency and the Philippine Army in Barangay Bayong, Balamban, Cebu.

PDEA-7 agents and the members of the 5th Special Forces Company of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion uprooted 33,000 stalks of fully-grown marijuana plants and 4,000 seedlings.

The team was led by 2nd Lieutenant Al-Qatar Kamlian. PDEA-7 Director Jeffrey Bangsa said they coordinated with the AFP after receiving reports of a marijuana plantation in the maintain barangay of Balamban.

The plantation was concealed in a ravine by several trees and guarded by armed persons, making it difficult for law enforcers to discover.

Bangsa, however, said they have not seen any armed person in the area during the operation. The uprooted marijuana plants were immediately burned in the area.

The operation on Monday was the largest haul so far. In 2008, 215 fully-grown marijuana plants and 333 seedlings were also uprooted in Barangay Bayong. There were also 203 marijuana plants valued at P40,600 were uprooted in Barangay Gaas in 2011.

In 2012, 558 marijuana plants were uprooted in Barangay Magsaysay worth P500,000.— (FREEMAN)
