VECO to public: Brace for pockets of outages

CEBU, Philippines - With the unstable power supply for the past two days, the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) tells the public to prepare for pockets of outages until supply from power generators normalizes.

Today, February 22, a 15-hour brownout starting at 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be implemented in portions of Barangays Tabok, Paknaan, Labogon and Basak in Mandaue City to facilitate the reconstruction of poles on its 23kv lines. Service will also be interrupted staring 5 a.m. to 12 noon along H. Abellana Street in Basak, Mandaue City to accommodate installation of electric transformers.

On February 23, Monday, another 7-hour service interruption is seen to affect portions of Banilad, including Maria Luisa Estate Park and in Maguikay, Mandaue City from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the upgrading of transformers.

VECO said these scheduled power interruptions are necessary for system improvement and maintenance.

VECO urged its customers to start to conserve energy as early as this month. The power firm will continue with its energy conservation campaign dubbed as Cebu Unplugged this March, saying it will push harder for consumers to practice the simple ways of saving energy as government warns of an impending power crisis this summer.

VECO also advises its customers to call its hotline number 2308326 for more inquiries and clarifications. (PR) (FREEMAN)
