City will not give Charter Day bonus

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government’s regular and casual employees will not be receiving any bonus on February 24, the city’s 78th Charter Day.

“Wala gyod ta mag-set og budget for the Charter day bonus this year,” said City Administrator Lucelle Mercado.

She said it is because the 78th Charter Day is not a “monumental year” for the city.

“The city government will give Charter Day bonus kon kana rang 25 years, or 50, 75, 80, 85 or mga monumental year,” Mercado said.

In 2013, however, during the 76th Charter Day Celebration, at least 4,800 regular and casual City Hall employees each received P12,000 as bonus after the City Council approved P59.144 million.

In an interview yesterday, Mercado said the city has instead started releasing the leave monetization amounting to P3,000, clothing allowance (P5,000), and productivity incentive (P2,000) of the employees.

“So, makadawat gihapon atong mga employees og P10,000 out of it.  Mora ra sad siya og bonus,” she said, adding that the employees have until February 28 to claim the said benefits.

Last year, the city government also did not give any Charter Day bonus to its employees after giving P12,000 in 2013 and P10,000 in 2012.
