CEBU, Philippines - A woman died and two others, including an eight-year-old boy, were seriously injured after a Toyota Vios hit them Sunday morning while they were standing along the highway in Barangay Bahay, Sibonga town.
Adelyn Cabunada, 29, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at Carcar District Hospital because of severe head injuries.
Cabunada’s son, Jamesly, and her sister, Ginalyn Buracho, 24, are in critical condition at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where they were transported after the accident.
Initial investigation revealed that the victims were standing along the national highway waiting for a bus ride to Carcar City when the vehicle driven by Exequel Morata, 57, hit them.
Morata was heading to Barangay Lindogon, Sibonga, Cebu from Cebu City when the accident happened.
Police Officer 2 Ederlino Bakusno, of Sibonga City Police Station, said Morata claimed he was running at a normal speed when he did not notice a blind curve ahead, prompting him to swerve the vehicle but lost control of the car in the process.
Morata swerved the car into the opposite lane where the victims were standing.
“Nagtindog ra to ang mga biktima dapit sa dalan kay nag-atang sila og bus paingon sa Carcar,” Bakusno said.
Morata voluntarily surrendered to the police after the incident. He is now detained at the Sibonga Police Station while waiting for the filing of the criminal complaint. (FREEMAN)
