Capitol now has an elevator

CEBU, Philippines - The Executive Building of the Provincial Capitol now has an elevator to mainly serve senior citizens and persons with disabilities who have transactions at the building.

Governor Hilario Davide III, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and Provincial Board Members Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca, Christopher Baricuatro and Jude Durano-Sybico led the formal opening of the elevator yesterday with Msgr. Dennis Villarojo officiating the blessing ceremony.

“Atong mga PWD ug senior citizens nga maluoy pud ta mga moari sa Kapitolyo mobisita, unya mag-antos sa hagdanan…para ila na,” Davide said.

The elevator car’s dimensions are 1.05 meters by 1.25 meters by 2.35 meters. It can lift 535 kilograms or approximately six people.

The construction of the elevator cost P1,077,015 while the elevator car itself was purchased at P1,366,507.

Construction for the elevator started around November of 2013 but took some time to be finished due to concerns on its location at the executive building.

The elevator can go up and down the three floors making it easy for those who need to go to the Governor’s Office, Capitol Social Hall and other offices like the Provincial Agriculture, Treasurer and Budget Offices which are on the second floor.

The offices of the Provincial Engineer, the planning and development and tourism are on the third floor.

The four-story Legislative Building of the Provincial Capitol, where the offices of the Vice Governor and Provincial Board Members are located, already has an elevator.  (FREEMAN)
