Man arrested for causing alarm
CEBU, Philippines - An anonymous caller reporting a hostage-taking incident sent the police rushing to Naya Village in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City yesterday morning.
But Chief Insp. Arthur dela Rosa, chief of Punta Princesa Police Station, clarified that there was no hostage-taking incident happened.
Dela Rosa said that Oscar Enrique Alleonar, 39, only told his brother, Rey, and the house helper to go out of the house and locked it, and ordered his mother, Vergie, 70, not to go outside.
The police chief said based on the report they received, they immediately responded to the incident together with the personnel from Special Weapons and Tactics Team.
SWAT personnel immediately entered the house from the back and noticed that the suspect was in the other room while his mother was in the adjacent room.
Dela Rosa said that SWAT personnel did not see any weapon from Oscar Enrique who surrendered peacefully.
“Ang gihimo sa SWAT, diha sa back portion nisulod, walay pusil walay kutsilyo nga nakuha…he surrendered peacefully,” dela Rosa said.
He said that the suspect has been in an out of the rehabilitation center and he has been in jail five times.
Based on the initial police investigation, past 11 a.m. yesterday the suspect and his brother Rey had a quarrel, telling his brother to go out of the house.
Oscar Enrique then told the house helper to go out and locked the door but his mother was still inside the house.
He then allegedly told his mother not to go out of the house.
Because of his mother’s fear that something might happen to her, she locked the door to prevent her son from entering her room.
Dela Rosa said that the suspect’s mother and brother are keen on filing charges against Oscar Enrique.
He said the suspect could face alarm and scandal charges and they would file the case as soon as his family submits the affidavits.
The suspect, who was still trembling after he was brought to the police station, refused to comment.
He is currently detained at the Punta Princesa Police Station.— (FREEMAN)
