Toledo City has new police chief

CEBU, Philippines -  Superintendent Ricky Delelis is now the new chief of Toledo City Police Station replacing Chief Inspector Michael Anthony Bastes, who was relieved from his post on Wednesday.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Noel Gillamac, in a phone interview, said he received a letter from Bastes asking for his re-assignment to the provincial headquarters.

“Nag-request na si Bastes a month ago, magpa-assign siya sa headquarters kay hapit na duha ka tuig siya sa Toledo,” said Gillamac, referring to the two-year mandatory service of a police official in a certain police unit.

Gillamac said he will find a position for Bastes at CPPO that fits his qualification.

Delelis officially took over Bastes’ post in a turnover ceremony held at the police station at 10 a.m. yesterday.

Gillamac directed Delelis to continue Bastes’ programs.

According to the CPPO director, Bastes was able to draw support from the community, where he had been receiving information that led to the success of their anti-criminality operations.

In fact, the former police chief received an award after the arrest of the suspects behind the string of robberies in the third district.

Delelis agreed to continue the projects initiated by Bastes especially in maintaining a good relationship with the community and with the local government unit.

He added that one of his immediate concerns is to give justice to the robbery victims in Toledo City.

Delelis further said that Toledo City Mayor John Henry R. Osmeña ordered him to continue the fight against illegal drugs.

Delelis once served as police chief of Talisay City Police Station and Carcar City Police Station and as chief of CPPO Operations Branch, his latest assignment before he was transferred in Toledo City.   (FREEMAN)
