Ex-journo donates meds for kids

CEBU, Philippines - A retired Norwegian journalist who is residing in Cebu City has donated boxes of medicines and vitamins worth approximately P50,000 to the Police Regional Office – 7 for the latter’s medical mission in Barangay Tinago.

The mission on July 31 is in line with the observance of the 19th Police Community Relations Month. The medicines will go to an estimated 300 children.

The retired journalist, Harry Wad, 50, a native of Oslo, has been living in the city for the past five years and has done several philanthropic works for the city police.

Last year, he donated medicines worth P100,000 for residents of Bohol affected by the massive earthquake in October.

Chief Inspector Enrique Belciña of PCR-CCPO said Wad has been a regular benefactor of several activities for the community and, at times, personally helped in distributing his donations.

“We are thankful that we have a foreigner who has a big heart for the less fortunate and somehow help them in their needs,” Belciña said.

Wad also visited and donated relief goods to victims of super typhoon Yolanda last year together with some newsmen from Norway. In April 2011, Wad donated medicines and food for patients of operation ‘Tuli’ of PCR-CCPO.

Wad said he loves the Philippines and it is his pleasure and mission to help Filipinos most especially the less fortunate children.

Wad also says he trusts the police that is why he channels his donation through them.

“I trust the police with these (donations) and I am sure these will be in good hands and will be used correctly,” he said.

Aside from being a former freelance newspaper writer, Wad was a former chief executive officer of Mercedes Benz in Norway.(FREEMAN)
