Cebu ‘cleaner’ than other cities

Eunice Villariza - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama claimed Cebu City is cleaner than the other cities during the final briefing of the 35th Coastal and 31st Urban Cleanup.

The cleanup drive is set to happen today which will involves the barangays from Cebu City.

Rama informed that there has been a positive difference in the city since the drive was started quarterly in the city.

“Since dugay naman ni nagsugod, so daghan na ang steps nga naagi-an which means naa gyu’y development,” he said.

Eighty barangays are required to participate in the cleanup drive which includes the City Hall employees, students and police personnel.

Rama further said it would be expected that the garbage to be collected will not be as much as before since he has been very particular on the cleanliness in the city especially when he enforced the campaign on “no segragation, no collection.”

“Sa una grabe gyud kadaghan sa mga basura, pero ato nang gihinay-hinayan og limpyo kay kinsa man ang ganahan mopuyo og lugar nga hugaw?” he added.

He also said urban barangays and barangays from the shorelines are given priority since these barangays produce garbage.

Though some barangay officials from the different barangays say that there are still some people who don’t throw their garbage properly.

“Naa man gyud mga tawo nga dili mopatu-o, pasagad gihapon og labay sa basura pero at least karon na-minimize siya,” said Juan Flores Jr. of Barangay Zapatera. (FREEMAN)
