CEBU, Philippines - The municipal council of Madridejos has authorized the town mayor to enter into a formal agreement with the National Housing Authority for the construction of houses for residents affected by super typhoon Yolanda.
The authority came after NHA approved a P5 million budget for housing assistance for the towns in northern Cebu affected by the typhoon last November 8, 2013.
The assistance will be released under the agency’s Housing Materials Assistance Program and the town can avail of it through a formal Memorandum of Agreement, which needs to be signed by Mayor Salvador dela Fuente and the NHA.
The town claims that there were 2,119 houses in 14 barangays damaged by Yolanda.
In February, the Council also allowed Dela Fuente to enter into a MOA with the Department of the Interior and Local Government for the release of P32.2 million for the rehabilitation of the damaged public infrastructure in the town.
This, however, changed, after the provincial government downgraded the rehab funds from P27 billion to P10 billion. (FREEMAN)
