Army to help guard Cebu during Lent

CEBU, Philippines - At least 150 personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines will support policemen in securing Cebu during the Lenten season.

Central Command spokesperson Lt. Jim Alagao said the AFP personnel will come from the Engineering Brigade, Naval Forces Central, 2ndAir Division, Special Forces Company and from the Joint Task Force Company.

 â€œWala ra mi problema as we are support only to the PNP and we are always ready,” Alagao said in a phone interview.

He said the AFP personnel will also be deployed in terminals, ports and wharfs, as well as in hotspots, in Cebu City and in the province. The AFP personnel will be deployed Wednesday next week.

The Cebu Provincial Police Office said its security plans are in place, particularly in Bantayan Island and in the southern part of the province where 100 policemen will be deployed.

Supt. Anthony Bagarinao, Deputy Provincial Director for Operation, said they are coordinating with the Cebu City Police Office constantly to share information about robbery suspects.

“Basin lang dunay mudayo ngadto sa Bantayan nga mangunguot kay tua baya ngadto ang mga tao halos,” Bagarinao said.

The PNP personnel will be deployed to their assigned areas on Tuesday. — (FREEMAN)
