Angelica S. Bertos - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A Japanese lost his bag containing gadgets worth more than P100,000 to an unidentified person last Thursday afternoon.

Ryo Yoshida, 19, of Honda Midoriku Chiba, Japan, reported the incident to the Tourist Police Unit of Cebu City Police Office.

Yoshida alleged that he and his Japanese friend were urinating on the sidewalk of Mango Avenue near a gasoline station when he noticed that his bag was no longer beside him.

Yoshida said he saw a man around 20 years old running carrying his bag that contains a laptop, an iPod, earphone and other items.

Meanwhile, two men were arrested Thursday afternoon after they reportedly snatched the cellular phone of a 17-year-old student inside a public utility jeep along N. Bacalso Avenue, Mambaling, Cebu City.

Benjamin Bacon Alcontin, 24, of Katipunan, Labangon, was arrested by PO1 Christopher Mariot of Cebu City Public Safety Company while Mayward Bacus Patricio, 25, of Punta Princesa was arrested inside his house.

While he was driving his motorcycle behind the PUJ, Mariot said he saw the suspects taking away the P20,000 worth of Sony X Peria cellular phone of the student.

The suspects then ran towards the interior portion of Ibabao Mambaling, prompting Mariot to chase the suspects and arrested Alcontin.

Mariot brought Alcontin to Police Station 11 where he admitted passing on the snatched cell phone to his companion, Patricio.

SPO2 Rene Sebes and PO2 Raymund Aballe, together with Alcontin, proceeded to the residence of Patricio who reportedly cried while turning over the victim’s phone to the police.

Both suspects are now detained at the Police Station 11.  (FREEMAN)
