CEBU, Philippines - A man allegedly spotted carrying a gun in Barangay Poblacion West, Moalboal, was shot dead by a policeman after worried neighbors alerted the cop of a suspicious man lurking around the area.
PO1 Sofialin Pableo, a resident of the said place, just came from Dumanjug Police Station, where he was assigned when he received information from a neighbor of a suspicious person who was sneaking in the house of another neighbor.
Pableo responded and saw Delgado Sab-a, 31, of Barangay Poblacion East who was reportedly armed with a .38 revolver.
Insp. Edgar Labe, Moalboal police chief, told The FREEMAN that Sab-a was allegedly acting suspicious and when Pableo approached him, Sab-a reportedly pulled out something from his waist. Pableo immediately acted and shot Sab-a once.
“Mura kuno ug dunay gibunot kay kabantay man kuno siya nga diha mura ug armas nga giluklok sa kilid,†Labe said in a phone interview, adding that Pableo even called their station for back up.
Labe clarified though there was no shootout. “Wala makapabuto ang suspek pero naunhan kay armado man daan,†he said.
Sab-a was rushed to the Badian District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Moalboal police recovered .38 revolver with two bullets from Sab-a’s possession.
Pableo surrendered to the responding police and turned over his 9mm service firearm.
According to Labe, Cristy Velonta, the live-in partner of Sab-a, said that a few days ago Sab-a started to act strange and even threatened her.
“Nausab kuno ang taras, bayolente na kay muingon na man nga pamusilon sila,†Labe said.
Based on the records of the Moalboal Police Station, Sab-a did not have any record.
While the police continue with their investigation, they are also waiting for the family of Sab-a if they will file a criminal case against Pableo. (FREEMAN)
