City to give P1.6M more to typhoon-struck areas

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City will be distributing P2.1 million in cash aid for typhoon-stricken areas next week.

 The Cebu City Council agreed during their recent session to give out P1.6 million more from the city’s calamity fund. It was Councilor Margarita Osmeña who proposed an amendment to include the towns of Merida, Bato, and Albuera, all in Southern Leyte; as well as the Batasan Island in Bohol, and Tabuelan town in Cebu.

Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella said that the cash aid is scheduled to be distributed next week.

Labella, who personally heads the distribution of help as part of the first batch of financial aid, said that Borongan and Hernani, both in Eastern Samar already received the help they distributed last Saturday.

The P500,000 as part of the P12 million financial assistance agreed by the council for the province of Coron, Palawan, has yet to be given.

“Sa first nga P12 million wa pa maapil ang Coron, Palawan, but basin next week napud as we distribute the additional P1.6 million,” Labella said.  (FREEMAN)
