Bigtime nubain dealer falls

CEBU, Philippines - An alleged bigtime nubain dealer and one of her accomplices were arrested in Barangay Kamagayan by the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force for selling nubain to an operative last Sunday night.

The two were identified as Jovita Rodriguez, 48; and Alejandro Rodriguez, 51. Both are not related but are neighbors in the said barangay. They were arrested after selling an ampoule of nubain to a poseur-buyer in a buy-bust operation.

Twenty-nine ampoules were found on Jovita after she was frisked.

CAIDSOTF chief Senior Insp. Eunil Avergonzado said that they are focusing on Barangay Kamagayan which is known to be a red light district in the city. This after the City Health Department complained of HIV cases which are mostly transmitted by use of the same syringe among nubain users.

"Sige na og reklamo ang city health, mao ni nga ato ning i-prioritize ang Kamagayan," Avergonzado said.

Jovita, according to Avergonzado has been selling nubain for a long time now.

Following complaints from concerned citizens of her illegal activity, police then conducted a week-long surveillance before the operation was carried out.

Jovita admitted to selling nubain as a means of living.

Aside from nubain, CAIDSOTF is also monitoring shabu operations in the barangay.

The two suspects are now temporarily detained at Cebu City Police Office lock up cell while charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being prepared against them.  (FREEMAN)
