IEC committee starts ocular site inspection

CEBU, Philippines - Preparations for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) in 2016 here in Cebu are on its way as the pontifical committee has started their ocular inspection yesterday in sites where events may possibly take place.

Archbishop Piero Marini, president of the Pontifical Committee of the IEC, led the team in their inspection yesterday starting with the templete of San Pedro Calungsod at the South Road Properties.

The group also headed to the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC), which is another area being considered for the event although organizers have said that no final decision has been made and they are also looking into other places in Cebu.

In his short encounter with the media, Marini expressed how pleased he is that the IEC, which is done every other four years, will be held in Cebu.

“I’m happy that the congress will take place here in Cebu. I am sure it will be a good opportunity for all the people of the Philippines to profess their faith in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist.”

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, who went with the Pontifical Committee in their ocular inspection, said that the IEC was a great occasion for Cebu to host.

“This will be an opportunity for us to commit ourselves to the Lord and be better Christians showing our love for the Lord and one another.”

Further Palma asked for the prayers from the public for the successful hosting of the event.

“We ask you to pray for us and to announce to the people that this is a privilege for us Cebuanos.”

A press conference will take place this Saturday to further discuss on the activities of the IEC and the preparations involved.
