6 burglars nabbed in Liloan town

CEBU, Philippines - Six suspected burglars, including five minors, were arrested by the police in Barangay Tayud, Liloan last Friday morning after they have reportedly burglarized several houses.

The police were able to recover some of the loots. PO3 Renato Pendo of the Liloan Police Station identified one of the suspects as Arnel Vendiola, 26, of Nangka, Consolacion town. The Freeman withheld the identities of the five other suspects for being minors.

They were positively identified by their victims, Jozam Abella, 30; Bhlaise Mahinay, 23; and Lydia Sayson, 44. According to the police, the suspects broke into the victims’ houses in Mariano Compound at 12 midnight last Friday.

One of the victims caught one of the minor suspects leading to the arrest of the five others. The minor suspect led the police to the whereabouts of his companions resulting in their arrest. During the hot pursuit operation, one of the minor suspects was allegedly injured in the head for trying to elude arrest. He is now confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Among the stolen items recovered from the suspects were branded pair of shoes, bags, slippers, hats, shorts, and a gas stove.

“Mura ra g’yud padung airport ang mga tonto kay nag-guyodguyod ra sad sa luggage, sod ato ilang mga kinawat,” the police officer said, adding that they are notorious thieves in the place.  A criminal complaint for theft will be filed against the suspects, including the minors.

Meanwhile, a notorious burglar was also arrested in Barangay Tangke, Talisay last Friday after at least four complainants identified him.

Lynde Maglinte, 20, was arrested after a brief chase with the police. Seized from his possession was a gun and a knife.

A witness told police that she saw Maglinte barged into the house of Virginia Padungao, 49, by destroying the padlock and proceeded to the master’s bedroom where he stole P9,500 cash from the drawer.

A hot pursuit operation was conducted that led to the suspect’s arrest. Recovered from him was a caliber .38 revolver with three live ammunition, an 11-inch batangas knife, a black pistol belt, and an electric hair curler that he stole. He is now detained at the Talisay City Police Station.

Victims Francisco Cabrera, 59, Charley Labajo, 30, and Katherine Salazar, 15, appeared at the police station and identified the suspect.

A grocery store owner also lost more than P200,000 cash to six unidentified robbers in Barangay Guinsay, Danao City last Friday afternoon.

The robbers held Rizalina Requillas, 37, at gunpoint and demanded her backpack containing P210,000.  (FREEMAN)
