CEBU, Philippines - A 78-year-old woman was shot dead by her neighbor early morning yesterday while heading to her farm in Barangay Cabungahan, Danao City.
Amancia Tariao, a widow, and a resident of Barangay Manlayag, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of her body after she was allegedly shot Jolito Montes, 42.
Police are pursuing two possible motives behind the killing.
For one, PO3 Marlon Remollo said Tariao and Montes reportedly had a land dispute as Tariao’s farmland is just bedside Montes’ lot.
“Ilang lalis sa yuta dugay nana kay tungod sa ilang umahan,†Remollo said.
Another was that Tariao had been asking Montes to pay his debt and that morning Tariao again reminded the suspect of his debt which led to a heated argument before the shooting.
“Sayong buntag man na paingon sa iyang umahan iyang gipaningil ang suspek unya galalis kuno,†Remollo added.
Tariao sustained gunshot wounds in her forehead, with the slug exiting from the back of her head, and three more in the torso. She was no longer taken to the hospital.
Police immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation but Montes and his entire family were gone.
The children of Tariao will be filing a murder case against Montes.
Meanwhile, a person who was believed to have been robbed and killed was found dumped down a cliff last Wednesday morning in Barangay San Isidro, Asturias town.
Generoso Juntong, 68, a resident of the said place, earlier asked permission from his wife, Lucita, last Tuesday morning to go to the house of a certain Gina to buy livestock. He failed to return home that day.
She asked the police for help to find her husband the following day and they were able to find bloodstains that led to the cliff where they found his body.
Generoso had lacerations in his neck and different parts of his body while the P20,000 cash the victim was supposed to buy livestock with was gone.
However, in a hot pursuit operation, police arrested Brian Salmorin, 19, and resident of Sitio Udlom 2 of the said barangay, past noon that same day after he was identified by a witness.
Brian admitted that his older brother, Bernardo Pugoy, 25 and his friend, Alode Canuelas, 33, both from Sitio Udlom 2, were also included in the crime.
Nocos said that it was Brian who provided the knife his two accomplices used to kill Generoso.
“Sunday evening pa ni sila gaplano nga makakwarta sila anang pagka-ugma kay naay birahan,†Nocos added.
Police are now looking for the two alleged assailants. (FREEMAN)
