DPWH-7 reports 143 projects completed

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A total of 143 infrastructure projects amounting to P1.7 billion have been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways-7 from January to July this year.

Based on the “completed projects” for Cebu posted at the DPWH website, the multi-million Mactan Circumferential Road in Lapulapu City and the retrofitting of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and Butuanon Bridge are among those.

Marie Nillama, DPWH-7 information officer, said that the “program amount” listed, does not necessarily mean the actual amount spent on a specific project but the budget allocated by the agency on a project.

Nillama could not provide the actual amount paid by the DPWH-7 for the 143 projects.

It was not also posted on the website how much was the amount paid. For instance, it was listed that the construction of elementary schools in the town of Ginatilan, Dumanjug, and Badian has an allocation of P774,000 each. However, there is no data showing how much was the “contract amount” or the amount actually paid to the contractors.

Although the DPWH has already claimed 100-percent complete. DPWH-7 also completed various road widening projects in the different towns in the province.

Among those is the Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road which is 109.45 kilometers in length. It traverses the main coastal highway along the northeastern part of Cebu and serving the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Danao, and Bogo and the municipalities of Consolacion, Lilo-an, Compostela, Carmen, Catmon, Sogod, Borbon, Tabogon, and San Remegio.

According to the Regional Development Council-7, CNHWR serves as a major trunk road along the northeastern side of the province and provides links between and among the said cities and towns. (FREEMAN)
