PB confirms 3 Davide appointees

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) has confirmed yesterday the appointments of three Capitol officials holding key positions under the administration of Governor Hilario Davide III.

The board confirmed the appointment of Provincial Legal Officer Orvi Ortega, Provincial Administrator Mark Tolentino and Provincial Information Officer Ethel Natera.

PB Member Peter John Calderon sponsored the resolution confirming the appointments. Their appointments are co-terminus with that of Davide.

Ortega replaced lawyer Marino Martinquilla who has been serving the position in acting capacity during the time of then governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale clarified that Martinquilla refused to accept the position thus he remains as assistant provincial legal officer.  Tolentino also replaced former provincial administrator Eduardo Habin who was hired by Davide as consultant.

Natera on the other hand manages the official publication and the television program of the Capitol.

Board Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy has pending proposed ordinance for the enhancement of the PIO.

Meanwhile, the PB yesterday also approved the committee chairmanship and the designation of Sitoy as majority floor leader.

During the inaugural session, the PB passed the resolution authorizing Magpale to designate the committee chairmanship and the majority floor leader.

Magpale has retained the chairmanship of the committee on tourism and international affairs; and the committee on women, family and minors.

She designated her cousin, Board Member Jude Thaddeus Sybico as assistant majority floor leader.

Sitoy chairs the committee on differently abled persons; and the complaints and investigations while Sybico on the committee on information and communications technology, and cooperatives.

Neophyte board members got strong committees such as Engr. Grecilda Sanchez on the committee on budget and appropriations, and provincial and municipal properties; Christopher Baricuatro of the committee on public works, highways and infrastructure; and commerce and industry while Raul Alcoseba on the committee on public services, and senior citizens.

Board Members Julian Daan on the committee on public affairs and information; Peter John Calderon on public health and social welfare, and education.

Board Members Alex Binghay heads the committee on agriculture and livelihood, Joven Mondigo Jr., laws and review of ordinances; and Sun Shimura, public safety, peace and order, and accreditation.

Board Members Miguel Antonio Magpale on planning and development, arts and culture, and Thadeo Ouano on environmental conservation and natural resources, and ways and means.

PB Members Jose Ribomapil Holganza Jr. on barangay affairs and rural development, human rights and labor; Carmen Remedios Meca on ethics, dangerous drug abuse and prevention; and Aladin Wilyamie on youth and sports development.  (FREEMAN)
