Capitol Parish celebrates 50 years

CEBU, Philippines - Songs of praise and worship dominated the Our Lady of The Sacred Heart - Capitol Parish last Saturday night as different choirs and singing groups from the parish and Cebu City performed in a concert in celebration of the parish’s 50th fiesta.

Dubbed as a concert filled with “Songs of Praise and Jubilation,” the event was led by the Our Lady of The Sacred Heart Grand Choir, singing well-known foreign and Filipino praise songs.

Since the celebration’s kick-off last Friday, the parish has prepared a set of activities in anticipation of the Grand Fiesta Day next Sunday, June 2.

Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal will be leading the fiesta mass at 10:30 a.m. next Sunday, together with a team of pastors and visiting priests.

However, regular masses will still be conducted on that day.

At evenings, the parish holds cultural shows, concerts, and game shows, such as last Saturday’s choir concert and “Capitol Idol” tonight. Masses are heard for the whole week, celebrated by different priests in Cebu.

On June 1, the day before the grand fiesta day, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will officiate the Pontifical Mass, followed by Santacruzan and a fireworks display, along with a barrio fiesta dinner and a show by the Sandiego Dance Troupe. (BANAT NEWS)
