Investigation revealed that victim and the assailant were riding the same motorcycle heading to the barangay hall when the assailant suddenly stopped and shot the victim with a handgun.
Casida was shot in the right eye and was brought by responding personnel of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, but she was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Caballes, who was arrested in July of 2010, was only convicted by Regional Trial Court Branch 8 Judge Macaundas Hadjirasul last Mar. 25, 2013.
