CEBU, Philippines - Two men died in separate vehicular accidents in Talisay City and Danao City last Saturday.

In the Talisay incident, Michael Flores, 30, suffered severe head injury when the motorcycle he was driving hit a Prime Mover truck  at a junction of the South Road Properties in Barangay San Isidro past 3 a.m.

Flores was declared dead by the Talisay Response Emergency Action Team (TREAT) personnel.

SPO2 Nestor Canlobo said Flores was driving toward the Talisay City proper while the truck, driven by Jemson Tamayo Jr., 25, of Tangcologan, Bais City, Negros Oriental, was heading toward Cebu City when the incident happened.

The truck was loaded with gravel that was supposed to be transported in Cebu City.

Canlobo said Flores was traveling at high speed and failed to step on the breaks when the truck was maneuvering to the other lane. His motorcycle hit the truck’s rear wheel.

“Nasangit man sa ligid sa truck maayo gyud pagkabuak sa ulo,” Canlobo said in a phone interview.

Canlobo also found out that Flores was driving without license and was not wearing a helmet at that time.

Tamayo is now detained at the police stockade, but Canlobo said both parties are planning to settle the matter today.

Meanwhile, in the Danao incident, Abner Fernandez, 21, of Barangay Sandayong Sur, Danao City, was driving toward Barangay Poblacion when a stray dog suddenly crossed the street in Barangay Sabang.

Fernandez reportedly tried to avoid hitting the animal, but he fell to the ground instead and was thrown off his motorcycle.

He was rushed to the Danao Provincial Hospital, but died a few hours later. – (FREEMAN)
