Liloan town wants out of fifth district
CEBU, Philippines - The municipality of Liloan wants to be included in Mandaue should the city pushes its bid to become a lone congressional district.
Mayor Vincent Duke Frasco suggested to include his town as well as Consolacion and Cordova in the new district. Frasco made the suggestion following a statement from Mandaue City mayoralty bet Vic Biaño that making the city a lone district would have several advantages.
Frasco said the idea of Biano was very possible since the city is qualified for it. This however needs the support of other congressmen.
The idea, Frasco said, was already discussed years back but not because Mandaue wanted to be a lone district but because Cebu lacked representation in the House of Representatives.
He explained that for a population of 250,000 in an area, it should have a legislator to represent them in congress. But Frasco said that even with Cebu obviously showing a huge population, it only has nine representatives in the lower house.
Frasco said his suggestion would be advantageous for both Liloan and the entire fifth district because it can already allocate more funds for the areas within its jurisdiction.
Frasco stated that the 5th district, represented in congress by Rep. Red Durano, has 11 municipalities including Lilo-an.— (FREEMAN)
