CEBU, Philippines - A 39-year-old Pole was believed to have committed suicide by stabbing himself and slashing his pulse with a knife early morning yesterday in Sitio Tingtingon, Barangay Maricaban, Sta. Fe town.
Marcin Mateuszczyk was found dead with a knife still stuck in his chest in front of his rented house in the place.
Police ruled out any foul play because there was no sign of struggle or commotion as well as no disarrangement of the things inside his house.
PO1 Jumary Villaceran said that Mateuszczyk was found dead by the owner of the house, Felomino Esplequera, around 6:30 a.m. The health officer who pronounced Mateuszczyk dead said he could have killed himself six hours earlier.
Aside from the stab wound Mateuszczyk also had lacerations in his neck, left pulse, and chest.
Police recovered two knives from the crime scene, a big one and a small one. Police believe the smaller knife was used for the slashes while the bigger knife was the one recovered from his chest.
Villaceran said that Mateuszczyk arrived in Cebu last December.
Further investigation revealed that six days ago, Mateuszczyk received a call from Poland that his four-year-old son was killed after being hit by a vehicle.
Since that day, Mateuszczyk had been drinking beer without taking any meals.
“Pirmi kuno ning makit-an nga maghinuktok unya muhilak la’g kalit,†Villaceran said.
Mateuszczyk was also heard joking to a friend he would kill him with a scythe.
“Iyang gisuway og abis-abis sa iyang tiyan ug hait ba gyud pero gipaagi la’g binuang,†Villaceran said in a phone interview.
Police are now coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs for the proper disposition of the body. — (FREEMAN)
