CEBU, Philippines - The wife of senatorial candidate Paolo Benigno “Bam†Aquino IV attributed her husband’s good standing in the latest Pulse Asia survey to the Cebuanos.
Mary Fatima “Timi†Gomez-Aquino yesterday said that Cebuanos made her husband number one in the last survey.
“Bam is so thankful sa mga Cebuanos for making him number one here. Mahal talaga ng mga Cebuanos ang mga Aquino. We are so thankful for that. But above his name, Bam has the character, the platform and consistency of his message,†said Timi during a press conference in Cebu.
Bam finished sixth among the top 12 senatorial candidates in the recent Pulse Asia survey. According to Timi, her husband’s rating in Cebu was a big factor in the overall results.
“In spite of his high ratings, we continue to work super super super very hard to ensure his victory,†Timi added.
The Pulse Asia survey in February shows Bam in the 4th to 9th place from 13th to 15th spot in January.
Bam, cousin of President Benigno “Noynoy†Aquino III, earlier said that being an Aquino is a plus factor. Although he believes that he has something unique to offer in this country as he represents the youth and his pro-poor advocacies.
Bam, a Young Global Leader awardee by the World Economic Forum, believes that qualification for the position, advocacies and winnability are also big factors aside from his famous family name.
Bam is the president of the MicroVentures Foundation, a social enterprise that supports under privileged women in the Philippine countryside through the Hapinoy Program, which won the UN’s Project Inspire Award besting over 400 social enterprises all over the world in 2011.
In 2010, he was one of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneurs of the Year and Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of the Republic of the Philippines for Social Enterprise and Community Development. (FREEMAN)
