Condo project assailed for lack of brgy permit

Rene U. Borromeo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The officials of Barangay Kamputhaw are protesting the ongoing construction of a 25-storey condominium project along Gorordo Avenue after the contractor failed to coordinate with them.

Barangay Captain Lorenzo Basamot and the other officials of Kamputhaw said that the private contractor hired by a realty firm to do the project did not secure the necessary permits from the barangay.

Basamot said the project did not have a permit from the barangay. He said there was no barangay resolution issued in favor of the project which is a requirement in the application for the issuance of Environmental Compliance Certificate from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Basamot added that the barangay resolution is also necessary to secure a building permit from the Office of the Building Official (OBO).

The barangay officials brought the matter before the members of the Cebu City Council for appropriate action.

The issue was referred to the committee on urban planning for further review and recommendation. (FREEMAN)
