Rehab session for Casiño starts

CEBU, Philippines - Assistant City Prosecutor Maria Theresa Casiño underwent physical and occupational therapy in her first rehabilitation session after being discharged from Chung Hua Hospital on Saturday.

Regional State Prosecutor Fernando Gubalane said a therapist helped Casiño stretch her arms and clap successively. The therapist also used a crutch to help Casiño walk.

The session lasted for one and a half hour. The amount per hour session is P500.

Gubalane said Casiño’s condition is improving, stressing that the therapy will last until she will fully recover.

While visiting Casiño in her first rehabilitation session, Gubalane said he noticed that she was talkative and lively.

“Talkative kay siya. Giingnan pa ko niya nga gwapo nga RSP. Wala siya ma impaired, walay slur, detalye iyang isulti and very articulate,” he said.

Gubalane was accompanied by other city prosecutors during his visit to Casiño, who was shot and was seriously injured during a rampage by Canadian national John Pope at the Palace of Justice on January 22. Pope later committed suicide.

Gubalane said they were thankful of Casiño’s seven attending physicians because most of them waived their professional fees.

He said most of the attending physicians were friends of Dr. Reynold Rene Rafols, who was shot and killed together with his lawyer, Jubian Achas, during the incident.

Gubalane said the hospital bills for Casiño were still being finalized and that he hopes Casiño will return to work soon.

He said Casiño told him that she could not clearly see as of the moment but doctors said the problem will heal naturally.

From the hospital, where she stayed for 19 days, Casiño was brought to their residence in Pardo, Cebu City.  – (FREEMAN)
