Politicos enjoy Sinulog

CEBU, Philippines - It was not just the Cebuanos and local and foreign tourists who came to see the Sinulog Grand Parade yesterday, politicians were also here to take part in the festivities.

Sinulog first-timer former Las Piña congresswoman Cynthia Villar, could not help but marvel at what she saw amid the sea of humanity.

“Cebuanos are very religious people.  Makikita mo naman on how they celebrate from the National Thanksgiving Mass of San Pedro Calungsod to this very wonderful Sinulog.  Ang ganda talaga at ang daming tao,” said Villar, who is running for senator under the United Nationalist Coalition.

Villar said that she is praying that the Señor Santo Niño will continue to bless the country’s progress for the sake of the poor people as well as for a peaceful and honest elections this coming May.

UNA chairman and Vice President Jejomar Binay also attended the event.

In a separate interview, former senator Miguel Zubiri said that in his 13 years of joining Sinulog, it has become so spectacular.

“The Sinulog festival in Cebu has become a standard on what a festival should be,” said Zubiri, who is also seeking reelection under UNA.

Bayan Muna Partylist Rep. Teddy Casiño said that Cebu’s Sinulog is spectacular and fabulous.

“Ang performance ng mga contingents, ang ganda. Grabe yong energy nila. Sa pagiging grand, there is nothing like Sinulog. ‘Yung pagiging deeply and highly religious ng mga Cebuanos and their creativity lumalabas,” said Casiño, who is running as an independent senator.  This is his third time to attend the event.

Former senator Richard Gordon, who is also running again for senator under UNA said that Sinulog is the crowning glory of all the festivals. —/BRP (FREEMAN)
