She might have made some of the best pants of Fall 2019, but Victoria Beckham’s brand, at its core, is still about dresses. Her earliest shows were filled with body-hugging sheaths and flippy midis that promised to imbue their wearers with a sense of Beckham’s own polish. Now, 10 years later, the designer is bringing back some of her favorite shapes and silhouettes with a capsule available on her website.
“Each one of these dresses means something very special to me, and there’s a reason behind each one,” she says. “We worked very hard as a team making sure that we curated this capsule of dresses, and that it was honest and it was organic and it was very Victoria Beckham. Yes, we’re about wardrobe, but our customer still wants dresses from me.”
The capsule is a compilation of greatest hits, from that midi sheath with curvaceous seaming introduced right at the beginning of Beckham’s brand to a kick flare slip dress. The best one is a dolman-sleeved frock in cherry silk with its back seductively scooped out. “We had done that dress a few seasons ago in a pre-collection in green. That was the dress that I actually wore for an event that I hosted with Sotheby’s in their store on Dover Street. I think that’s a really nice, easy shape to wear. It’s very flattering, and I love the color. It’s quite surprising when you turn around, you actually have a low back, which I think is quite sexy as well,” Beckham says.
The 15-piece capsule is a testament to the designer’s uncompromising vision of femininity – cutting a strong silhouette with both ease and comfort. “I’m always very aware of what women like and don’t like about their bodies, and have been right from the beginning, making sure that you’re covering up the pieces that women don’t like and exposing the pieces of their body that they like to show off,” Beckham explains.
