Pedal Push for Breast Cancer

CEBU, Philippines – With the annual commemoration of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October also known as Pink October, several activities are held to support the cause.  A Pink Street opened downtown and a Pink Fun Run was held. An addition to the many activities for the commemoration is the Pink Ride.

The Pink Ride is an SM City Cebu to the Cube at SM Seaside City Cebu bike trip. The biking event was organized to create a buzz to increase awareness on breast cancer. Biking-lovers, biking communities, including health enthusiasts and persons from different ages and walks of life participated in the bike ride, with everyone donning outfits in pink. Others came to support relatives who are experiencing cancer.

Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. According to the website heatlhfinder, about 1 in 8 women born today in the US alone will get breast cancer.

The Proceeds of the event will go to ICan Serve Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization advocating early breast cancer detection through breast self-examination. Women can survive breast cancer if found and treated early. A mammogram screening can help find the cancer early. The proceeds will also help the organization in their information campaigns and community-based screening programs.
