The Indelible Past (A Year after Yolanda)

A year after that life-changing disaster

Hearts still filled with sorrow, faces with anger

But Filipinos being resilient and strong

We have been able to survive and life goes on.

Deadly fate struck at Leyte and Samar

Nature’s fury was truly most bizarre

Menacing skies engulfed the whole region

Too scary to warrant condemnation.

As the typhoon Yolanda leveled Tacloban

We recalled the atomic bombs dropped in Japan

Thousands died and thousands more still missing

How horrible to watch the dead piling!

Even the brave ones could not help but cry

They cried until their eyes had gone dry.

The pain was almost unbearable

And we knew we were all liable.

Today marks a new chapter in the victims’ lives

To full recovery as the ordeal subsides.

For sure the Visayas has learned its lesson

That Mother Earth can make a dangerous turn.

While shouting for help, they were just ignored

Comes now a renewed hope and lives restored

Too much the pain, too many people suffered

November 8 – will forever be remembered.
