CAAP oks flower dropping during fluvial procession

CEBU, Philippines - The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)  has approved the request of Indiana Aerospace University (IAU) to drop flowers from the skies when the image of Señor Sto. Niño crosses the border of Mactan-Cebu Harbor channel during the fluvial procession on Saturday, January 18.

In granting IAU's request, CAAP Director General, Lt. General William Hotchkiss III declared the airspace of Mactan Channel as a “No Fly Zone” from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday to avoid air traffic congestion at the Mactan Cebu International Airport while  the two IAU training aircrafts, RP-C2896 to be piloted by Capt. Justin Castro and RP-C2821 to be piloted by Capt. Mark Uy are dropping flowers/prayer petitions from the skies directly to the image of the Infant Jesus.

Capt. Stephen E. Toring, Vice-President of IAU and an ardent devotee of Señor Sto. Niño, is requesting all devotees to send their flowers/prayer petitions already packed in sacks so that it would be easier and more convenient for the pilots to drop these to the galleon ship carrying the image of Señor Sto. Niño.

Devotees who wish to send their flowers/prayer petitions can drop it on January 17 on or before 5:00 PM at the following designated drop points:

1. Basilica Minor del Sto. Niño, Cebu City

2. Indiana Condotel at D. Jakosalem St., Cebu City

3. St. Therese of Lisiuex church in Basak, Lapu-Lapu City
