CEBU, Philippines - A new book focusing on the life and works of Cebuano journalist and broadcaster Gregorio "Greg" Mercado (1919-1967) will be launched, proffering to readers the literary prowess of one of Cebu's pioneering media practitioners.
Born on November 17, 1919, Mercado stood and still stands out as one of Cebu's prolific scribes, and this recent book will illustrate his adamant stance towards liberation, progressive shifts and change.
Romancing With Words: The Life and Works of Greg M. Mercado by Dr. Erlinda Kintanar-Alburo and published by USC Press - highlights the different roles Mercado had trodden on as a wordsmith - as a soldier of the sword and pen during the Second World War, as one of the longest serving presidents of the Cebu Press Club after the war, and as a versatile radioman who wrote scripts and stories that delved into everyday life and its bargains in the 50s and 60s.
Slated on December 18, Wednesday, 5-7pm at the Activity Center of the Ayala Center Cebu, the book launch is spearheaded by The Freeman Lifestyle and Ayala Center Cebu. US-based Roberto "Boy" Mercado, the son of Greg Mercado, came home to Cebu to grace the occasion; unfortunately, he passed away. He will be represented by his sons.
