Journey of faith

CEBU, Philippines -  Being a tradition woven into the fabric of malling culture, the exhibit of the various artists’ rendition of the image of the Holy Child was once again mounted at the Ayala Center Cebu. The exhibit opened last January 11 at the Exhibit Area II on the second level.

Images featured in this exhibit are owned by devotees like fashion designer Harley Ruedas and the prominent Frasco family of Liloan, among many others.

Since 2013 has been declared the Year of Faith, the exhibit takes on the celebration’s theme: “Journeying in faith with the Sto. Niño.

The image of the Holy Child stands in between the images of the Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of Cebu, and St. Joseph the Worker. Mounting the images of the Holy Family on a vessel, that of a galleon specifically, gives the idea of travel.

This also gives the impression of the journey of the image of the Señor Sto. Niño before it was handed over by Magellan to Queen Juana, in her conversion to Christianity, in 1521.  (FREEMAN)
