Troubled Mindscapes

CEBU, Philippines - Presented by the Alternative Contemporary Art Studio (ACAS) in the Sacred Heart Parish, Cebu City, Troubled Mindscapes stands to be one of ACAS' unique exhibitions this year, featuring large scale abstract works by Cebuano artist Vidal "Undo" Alcoseba Jr.

Highlighting ten 183 cm x 183 cm pieces, Alcoseba's Troubled Mindscapes takes a look at the overall creative processes happening in its artist's mind, touching up on the importance of studies and how often they deviate from finished works - yet are compelled into becoming unique and distinct compositions of their own.

With works capturing glimpses of how the artistic process is known to take its course, the exhibit, curated by J.V. Castro, effectively brings viewers to the pre-production stages involved in the making of studies, as well as bears all the flair and highlights found in completed masterpieces that are borne from serious "artistic business", all at the same time.

As artists are often plagued with conflicting aesthetic decisions when talking about where to bring their works to, Troubled Mindscapes reflects Alcoseba's take on that artistic reality, imposing cerebrally driven zen-inspired strokes in reaching his artistic aims.

Born in 1959 in Cebu City, Alcoseba remains to be one of Cebu's more prominent talents, with a career that spans over two decades of crafting quality artworks from blank canvases.

Static and immensely temporal in its overall depth, Troubled Mindscapes stands to collect some of Alcoseba's most prized masterworks to date, reflecting the surreal sense of sound, sight and emotion happening in Alcoseba's artistic visions.

Troubled Mindscapes will be on exhibit until November 10, 2012, in the Alternative Contemporary Art Studio of the Sacred Heart Parish located in 232 D, Jackosalem St, Cebu City. (FREEMAN)
