Coldplay’s Chris Martin is new ‘The Voice’ mentor

CEBU, Philippines - There’s a shakeup afoot on “The Voice” and it’s coming with the help of Chris Martin. Coldplay’s frontman will mentor the teams led by Shakira, Usher, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as part of Battles: Round Two, a revised format on the hit NBC spinning-chair singing competition.

The Battles: Round Two will begin March 31 and pit the remaining artists — the winners and the stolen contestants — from each team against one another to perform a song. Both artists have to sing for their coach’s approval to move forward to Playoffs. Each coach will have the chance to steal one more contestant.

NBC said Martin advised each of the performers on vocal techniques, stage presence and the importance of tailoring songs for their own strengths and personality.

Martin joins fellow “The Voice” season six mentors Jill Scott, The Band Perry, Aloe Blacc and Miranda Lambert.

“The Voice” goes live on April 21 with the Top 12 contestants competing for viewer votes. The Instant Save also returns when the show goes live. (FREEMAN)
